spacer           The Tohono O’odham Nation has a land base of 2.8 million acres, which is comparable to the size of the state of Connecticut. It is located in the southern most part of Arizona. Seventy-five (75) miles of the nation runs along the United States/Mexico International Border. The Tohono O'odham Nation is divided into eleven (11) political districts. Nine (9) of these districts are located on the portion that is commonly called the Main Reservation or Sells Reservation (Sells is the Capital of the Tohono O'odham Nation). San Xavier District is located next to Tucson, Arizona and San Lucy District lies just north of Gila Bend, Arizona.
              There are 24,000 individuals registered as members of the Tohono O’odham Indian Nation. Of the 24,000 enrolled members 800 members are living in the country of Mexico. The O’odham have lived, since time immemorial, a semi-nomadic existence, this entailed migrating to and from various parts of their territories ranging as far North as modern day Phoenix, Arizona, as far South as Hermosillo, Sonora (Mexico), as far East as the San Pedro River and as far West as the Colorado River. The O’odham traveled to these various localities for the cultivation of various food crops, herbs for traditional remedies, as well as for ceremonial and social purposes.
